Anggun Cipta Sasmi (born in Jakarta, 29 April 1974, age 37 years) is a singer from Indonesia who now has French citizenship. She is the daughter of Darto Singo, an Indonesian artist and Dien Herdina, a woman who was a relative of Yogyakarta Palace. He began his career by appearing on stage at age 7 years Ancol, Anggun then record an album of children 2 years later. Under the guidance of Ian Antono, Anggun debuted in Indonesia in 1986 through the World album I Got. At a very young age Anggun has managed to reach the peak of its popularity as a rock singer in Indonesia and he achieved the award "Most Popular Artist Indonesia 1990-1991". In 1994, Anggun decided to leave Indonesia and to realize his dream of becoming an international artist. With the help of Erick Benzi, a great French composer, in 1997, Anggun successfully released his first international album, Snow on the Sahara, in over 33 countries worldwide.

Anggun is the first daughter of the couple Darto Singo, an Indonesian artist with Herdina Dien, a housewife who still descendants of Yogyakarta palace. Anggun essentially educated at a school in Jakarta, although Anggun himself is Muslim. Graceful raised in a family full of art. Two years after leaving Indonesia, Anggun finally managed to meet with Erick Benzi, one of the great French producer who once worked with a number of albums such as the famous singer Celine Dion, Jean-Jacques Goldman and Johnny Hallyday. Benzi Anggun captivated by the vocal ability and immediately offered to record an album. Gracefully and then flew to Manila, Philippines to audition for Sony Music International. In the audition, Anggun managed to put the singers from various countries until Sony finally managed to get a contract for five albums. The first single from the album namely "Si tu l'avoues" for the French market, "Crazy" for the international market, as well as "So Yours" for the Indonesian market.

Anggun is one artist who really care about social issues. Since his international career, Anggun has been involved in many charity album project, including the Ensemble Contre le Sida (1998), Les enfoires (1999), Les Restos du coeur (1999), Echoes from Earth (2000), Les Voix de l'Espoir (2001), Gaia (2002), Le Concert pour la Paix (2003), Genesis (2004) (duet with Peter Gabriel), "L'or de nos vies" (2005) (singles campaign against AIDS), "Pour que tu sois libre "(charity single in 2007). Anggun has also held many charity concerts with musicians in Europe, call it the Concert Against AIDS in 2006 at Monaco and Concert Against Malaria in Switzerland who supported some of the musicians from five continents.

In 2005, Anggun was named the ambassador or spokesperson of the United Nations to microcredit schemes.
